Local News in Brief : Man Killed Attempting to Run Across Freeway
A Chula Vista man, who was attempting to run across the Golden State Freeway in Sylmar after his car broke down, was struck and killed by an oncoming vehicle late Saturday night, police said.
Sammy Navariz, 20, was hit by a pickup truck traveling on the freeway’s southbound fast lane, south of Roxford Street shortly after 11 p.m.
Navariz had driven his disabled car onto the shoulder next to the center divider. The driver of the car that struck him was not cited and was not injured, police said.
