Former Tennessee quarterback Tony Robinson was released from the Knox County Penal Farm in Knoxville, Tenn.
Robinson was granted an early release from his nine-month sentence on cocaine peddling charges so he can pursue a professional football career.
Robinson began his sentence Nov. 17, 1986. A Criminal Court judge granted the early release last Thursday, but Robinson is required to complete his sentence at the end of the regular football season or when all prospects of a pro career come to an end.
Robinson will continue rehabilitation for a knee injury he suffered in an 1985 game against Alabama. The injury cut short Robinson’s college career.
