Rep. Jack Kemp (R-N.Y.) is eligible to receive federal matching funds for his campaign for the 1988 Republican presidential nomination, the Federal Election Commission announced Thursday.

Kemp, who has announced his intention to seek the GOP nomination, submitted his eligibility request on April 16. The FEC said he would be notified of his matching funds.

To become eligible, a candidate must raise more than $100,000 by collecting more than $5,000 in 20 different states in amounts no greater than $250 a person. The FEC said funds would be distributed after Jan. 1.
