Charles Bukowski is a brilliant writer, a unique stylist with such an honesty and resonance that Americans should be proud to call him their own (“Bukowski,” March 22, by Paul Ciotti). Instead, it continues to be fashionable for an endless parade of impatient and superficial people to revel in putting him down.

All I can say is: Thank you, Hank, for every single word. You’re one of the greats--something Europe has known for years. And thank you, Los Angeles Times Magazine, for running an accurate and refreshing look at the man and the artist.
