CREDIT RATING
It was depressing to read another review--in this case Bill Steigerwald’s skimpy notice on “Baby Girl Scott,” (TV Review, May 23), an excellent CBS television movie--where the critic managed to dump on the screenplay not once, but twice, without mentioning the names of the writers.
He found the actors excellent, several scenes “genuinely heartbreaking and powerful.” There can’t be “great acting” (Steigerwald’s phrase) without at least a very good script. That’s where the characters are born, that’s where the story resides, that’s where the scenes are. If someone reporting on the film business doesn’t know that, then they’re not qualified for the job.
“Baby Girl Scott” was written by Christopher Knopf, from a story by Knopf and Beth Polson.
