Headquarters Assn. Will Honor Autry, Landmarks

Two Los Angeles landmarks, along with broadcasting and baseball magnate Gene Autry, will be honored by the Los Angeles City Headquarters Assn. on Thursday for their contributions to the city.

Autry, owner of the California Angels and chairman of Golden West Broadcasters, will receive the “Spirit of Los Angeles” award. His gift of the $25-million Gene Autry Western Heritage Museum, scheduled for completion next year in Griffith Park, has been called a major cultural contribution that will trace the history of the West from the 16th Century to the present.

The new Museum of Contemporary Art will be honored for enhancing the downtown cultural environment with its landmark architectural design. The $23-million museum opened last December.

The Wilshire Courtyard, a joint venture of the J. H. Snyder Co. and California Federal, will be honored for being a major force in the renaissance of the Wilshire Miracle Mile. The $165-million, 1-million-square-foot office complex sits on two city blocks between Masselin and Curson avenues.

The Headquarters Assn. promotes commercial and industrial development in the Los Angeles area.
