It is unlikely that any players for the Phoenix Suns were bribed to fix NBA games for gamblers, as alleged in Maricopa County grand-jury transcripts, three sports handicappers said.

Handicappers for the Stardust and Churchill Downs sports books in Las Vegas and the Gold Sheet in Los Angeles agreed that the amount of money that would be bet on a fixed game would not go unnoticed, the Arizona Republic reported.

“There was no pattern. There was no unusual money,” said Carl Giordano, managing editor of the Gold Sheet.

Scott Schettler, manager of the Stardust sports book, agreed, saying, “We didn’t see anything.”

And Frank Hall, manager of the Churchill Downs sports book, said, “I saw absolutely nothing unusual.”

Charles Donofrio, a deputy county attorney, told grand jurors two months ago that bribery of a professional athlete is one of the crimes that were being investigated, according to the Republic.

The grand jury has indicted 11 people, including five current and former Suns, on various drug-related charges.
