The district attorney’s office will be asked to file misdemeanor manslaughter charges against a Glendale taxi driver who struck and killed a Los Angeles police motorcycle officer in Reseda, police said Wednesday.
An investigation by Los Angeles police has determined that Gordon F. Dummer, 54, caused the accident Tuesday by making an unsafe left turn in front of Officer Randol L. Marshall, 39, an 18-year police veteran, Officer Bill Wilkins said.
Dummer’s taxi struck Marshall as he rode his police motorcycle west in the 17700 block of Saticoy Street in Reseda. Dummer and a passenger were unhurt in the accident, police said.
No citation has been issued in the case, and Dummer has not been arrested. If the district attorney’s office agrees to file charges, Wilkins said, Dummer will be arrested.
The charge carries a maximum penalty of six years in state prison, he said.
