Johnson Runs Fastest 100 Meters of Season
Canadian Ben Johnson, unaffected by three false starts, won the 100-meter dash in 10.02 seconds, the fastest time in the world this year, at the Calgary International track meet Friday night.
Johnson, who has the second-fastest clocking ever in the event--9.95--took the lead quickly and eased up over the last five meters. Harvey McSwain of Los Angeles was second at 10.26, and another Canadian, Mike Dwyer, was third at 10.44.
Calvin Smith holds the world record of 9.93.
