MOVIES - June 11, 1987

A weeklong salute to America’s black film makers in Chicago will feature 15 movies either made by blacks or starring black actors--including the 1951 “Native Son” and 1967 “Dutchman,” which were made overseas because of former racial taboos at home. The Mumm V.S.O.P. Cognac Salute to Black Film and Filmmakers runs through Sunday. The inaugural festival was held last year in New York. Films scheduled for showing this year include: “Cabin in the Sky” (1942); “Carmen Jones” (1954); “St. Louis Blues” (1958); “A Raisin in the Sun” (1961); “Lady Sings the Blues” (1972); “Conrack” (1977); “Carbon Copy” (1981); “Streamers” (1983); “A Soldier’s Story” (1984); “Fast Forward” (1985), and “Hollywood Shuffle” (1987).
