Central States Hit by Showers, Cold
Scattered showers and thunderstorms lingered over the central part of the country Wednesday behind a cold front that dropped early morning temperatures near the freezing mark.
A flash flood watch remained in effect over much of southern Texas, which has been the case for more than two weeks. As much as three inches of rain fell in parts of the region during a 24-hour period ending Wednesday morning.
Showers and thundershowers extended across the eastern Plains into western sections of the Mississippi Valley. More than an inch of rainfall was measured Wednesday at San Antonio, causing some street flooding.
The showers occurred behind a cold front that produced unseasonably cool temperatures overnight from the Great Lakes to the central Appalachians.
