W. Berlin Crowd Denounces U.S.
Thousands of demonstrators chanting anti-American slogans marched through West Berlin today as authorities tightened security for Friday’s visit by President Reagan.
Police estimated 10,000 to 15,000 people were in the column that stretched more than a mile as it approached the center of the city, where riot police in body armor waited with shields and clubs. The marchers chanted anti-Reagan slogans and carried banners denouncing U.S. involvement in Central America and the proposed “Star Wars” space defense system.
