General Motors Corp. said Friday that it is recalling 1.1 million compact 1983- and 1984-model cars because a front seat anchor bolt could break.

The models affected are the Buick Skyhawk, Cadillac Cimarron, Chevrolet Cavalier, Oldsmobile Firenza and Pontiac Sunbird. GM said it has received reports of six accidents and 10 minor injuries as a result of the problem.

GM said it will install a reinforcement bracket on the left front seat bolt as parts become available by the end of June.

The auto maker also announced the recall of 108,000 1985 and 1986 Chevrolet Spectrums, built by Japanese car maker Isuzu, because their fuel pumps may leak and cause a fire. Six fires have been reported, the company said, although no injuries were noted.

Dealers will install a new fuel pump ventilation kit on the Spectrums, GM said.

In Japan last month, Isuzu recalled its home version of the car, the Gemini, for the same problem.
