UNTOUCHED

“The Untouchables” is popular in Chicago for obvious reasons: It makes the city look great and the production crew spent lots of money in town. But not everybody’s giving it rave reviews.

According to reports in the local papers, State Sen. John D’Arco (D-Chicago) blasted the film at a ground-breaking ceremony for a local elementary school. After spotting a former associate of Al Capone in the audience, D’Arco “flew off the handle” about the film’s portrayal of mobsters. Stunning a crowd of schoolchildren and community leaders, he declared: “Al Capone was not as bad as he was portrayed to be (in the film).”

The Chicago Tribune reported that D’Arco, perhaps sensing his defense of the legendary gangster wasn’t playing well with the crowd, switched topics--to Gov. Jim Thompson’s proposed tax increase. He lauded it.
