Votes and Growth
Your Los Angeles City Council election coverage contained some interesting analysis. However, I strongly suspect that Pat Russell’s defeat June 2 had little to do with Mayor Tom Bradley’s support and almost everything to do with Russell’s own attitude toward growth control.
Southern Californians are wise to politicians who continue to promote unlimited development as essential to economic viability and community well-being.
San Diegans will have a unique opportunity in this fall’s elections. The voters will be asked to elect four new council members--four votes that could guarantee a majority voting bloc on environmental protection and land-use issues. The major campaign issue will be limited residential growth--the most reasonable method of preserving San Diego’s quality of life.
San Diego council candidates, are you paying attention?
