I am speechless. Just when I thought a program had lived up to all my expectations regarding credibility, creativity and a believable story line, we are subjected to one of the most unbelievable and distasteful endings to an otherwise perfect series. The writers of “St. Elsewhere” saw fit to have caring, concerned doctors leave one of their own (Dr. Auschlander) alone in the deserted hospital while he lay dying of liver cancer. The writers chose to end this episode by showing Dr. Auschlander collapsing to the floor, just as the wrecking ball outside makes its first swing on its way to destroying the hospital, and Dr. Auschlander along with it. Can anyone please give me justification for such a tasteless and unbelievable ending to such a previously brilliant show?
