Leftist guerrillas in El Salvador killed or wounded 114 soldiers in clashes last week, the rebels’ Radio Venceremos said. Meanwhile, a government spokesman said that 24 rebels were killed in clashes over the weekend. Both sides in the civil war have reported heavy casualties recently as the Salvadoran army has mounted operations in eight of El Salvador’s 14 provinces. Last week an army spokesman reported a total of 529 casualties during two weeks of fighting.
