A stick of dynamite thrown at a motel window shattered the glass and scared the couple inside but failed to explode, an Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. Apparently, the fuse went out after the three-inch stick hit the ground-floor window and dropped harmlessly outside the room of the H’Penny Inn at McFadden Avenue and Beach Boulevard near Midway City, Lt. Dick Olson said. The man and the woman in the room, whom police declined to identify, were unhurt. A sheriff’s Hazardous Devices Squad called to the motel used a remote-controlled robot to retrieve the dynamite, which was wrapped with something police would not identify. Dan Leroy Dinsmore, 49, of Westminster was later arrested by deputies on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a destructive device. Authorities said Dinsmore was a former boyfriend of the woman in the motel room. Bail was set at $250,000.
