President Reagan will travel to Melbourne, Fla., on Monday in the first of a series of weekly speaking forays on behalf of his economic policies, an aide announced Wednesday.

White House spokesman Marlin Fitzwater said Reagan would visit a Dictaphone plant, attend an employee picnic and go to a luncheon of community leaders arranged by the local Chamber of Commerce.

Wednesday night, Reagan denounced Democratic calls for higher taxes to balance the federal budget as “kamikaze economics” and said the plan would cause higher unemployment and raise interest rates.

White House aides said Reagan plans to make about one speaking trip a week through mid-August, when he will go to his California ranch for a vacation.
