Randolph Given Two-Stroke Penalty After Being Warned About Slow Play
Tied for the U.S. Open lead at one point Friday, Sam Randolph, formerly of USC, was still bunched among the leaders at the 17th hole when he blasted out of the bunker within four feet of the cup, then sank the putt. He made his par, a 4.
It went down on his card as a 6.
Randolph was slapped with a two-stroke penalty for slow play, after having been warned. He ended up shooting a 71 for the second straight day, but should have had a 69.
“I was slow. I got warned. It was a fair warning,” Randolph said. “I don’t know if we were holding up the whole golf course, but we were slow.”
