“Beverly Hills Cop II” passed the $100-million gross mark last week, just 29 days after its North American premiere. According to Paramount Pictures, only two other films have ever reached the box-office milestone faster: 1983’s “The Return of the Jedi” did it in 23 days, and 1984’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” hit the mark in 25 days.

And, it seems, at least some of Paramount’s windfall may have come from five San Jose police officers who are in hot water after being caught playing hooky by going to see the Eddie Murphy hit after their supervisor went home sick. Two of the officers were transferred and the others have been relieved of their duties while the May 30 incident is being investigated, Deputy San Jose Police Chief Fred Abram said Friday. Disciplinary action could range from a reprimand to outright firing.
