Groovy, with Angel Codero Jr. riding, raced six furlongs in 1:07 4/5 to establish a track record while winning the $108,800 True North Handicap for 3-year-olds and up at Belmont Park.
Racing over a muddy track, the 4-year-old Groovy led throughout while being hand-ridden. He was the high weight at 123.
The clocking bettered by 1/5th of a second the previous track record, set by Best By Test in 1986. It also lowered the stakes standard of 1:08 3/5, set by Shimatoree in 1982.
