Last week’s Top Two--20th Century Fox’s “Predator” and Warner Bros.’ “The Witches of Eastwick”--switched places this past weekend, with the Jack Nicholson/George Miller witches’ brew taking over the number one spot with a devilish $8.25 million at 1,123 screens. But “Predator,” with Arnold Schwarzenegger starring, was right behind, muscling $8.23 million out of 1,636 theaters. Paramount’s two summer crimebusters--”Beverly Hills Cop II’ and “The Untouchables”--continued their bang-up pace, with “Cop II” taking $7.4 million at 2,326 houses and “Untouchables” making off with $7.1 million from 1,501 theaters. The weekend’s biggest debut feature was Columbia’s “Roxanne”; Steve Martin’s retelling of the Cyrano story romanced $4.6 million out of 840 theaters. Disney’s “Benji the Hunted” opened rather softly, doing just over $3 million at 1,188 screens. And De Laurentiis Group’s “Million Dollar Mystery” scraped up only $101,045 at 550 theaters.
