El Toro : Landing Practice to Hike Jet Noise Level Near Base
- Share via
Fleet carrier landing practice at the El Toro Marine Corps Air Station will create increased levels of aircraft noise and air traffic later into the night, beginning today, a base spokesman has advised.
Sgt. Jim Hager of the base’s public affairs staff said the exercises consisted of pilots practicing carrier landings. “They simply fly in, touch their wheels down, then take off.”
Normally, Hager said, the airfield is closed by 10 p.m. But it will be open until midnight for the touch-and-go landing exercises today through Thursday, and again on Monday and July 1, Hager said.
Additional extended hours are from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on July 5 and until midnight on July 7. Permanent landings will be made from midnight until 1:30 a.m. July 8, and then from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the same day, Hager said.
