Gordon Anderson, an economic development administrator for the city, has been named special assistant to City Manager Don McIntyre and put in charge of the city’s efforts to revitalize northwest Pasadena. Anderson, 36, who has worked for the city five years, will take over the $53,000-a-year position July 1.

He will coordinate the efforts of city agencies, including the Police, Water and Power and Planning departments, improve housing and reduce unemployment and crime in the predominantly minority district.

Anderson replaces Bruce Philpott, a former Pasadena police commander, who held the post since it was created in August, 1985. Philpott will return to the Police Department to head its investigation division.
