Panama Forests

In your article (June 14), “Panama Fights for Its Forests,” you stated that “the Panamanian government has made one of the most stringent environmental decrees ever handed down in Latin America.” You also stated that this campaign is meeting resistance from “among other interested parties, the United States.”

This is an example of the interest of our own country getting in the way for what is best for the whole. This would be a perfect time to totally support the Panamanian government in relationship to the Panama Canal and work with them to solve the problems that exist, not to hinder their actions. We either pay the price now or we pay the price later. I hate to think of what the price will be later. Unfortunately, it could be far greater and could affect many more people and countries.
