A Turkish bulk carrier was set ablaze and seven of its crew were injured in an apparent Iraqi missile attack in the Persian Gulf, shipping sources said. Ankara immediately protested to Iraq. Turkish state radio and regional shipping sources identified the ship as the Hira III. A missile fired by a warplane smashed into the ship’s engine room, setting it ablaze, the shipping sources said. They said the Hira III was 60 miles south of Iran’s main oil terminal at Kharg Island and 15 miles off the Iranian coast when the attack occurred.
