Canadian Football League Commissioner Doug Mitchell said the league plans to conduct business as usual despite the loss of the Montreal Alouettes, which leaves the organization with eight teams, none east of Ottawa.

Mitchell said the CFL, which is beginning its new season, has drawn up a schedule that moved Winnipeg from the Western Division to the East to replace the Alouettes, who folded because of financial problems. This is the first time since 1953, when British Columbia joined the league, that the league has had as few as eight teams.
