A dancer with the San Francisco Ballet has sued the company for refusing to take her back after the birth of her baby. Nancy Dickson and her husband, dancer-actor Alexander Filipov, filed suit in San Francisco Superior Court Wednesday, claiming that in March 1986, three months into her pregnancy, artistic director Helgi Tomasson told her he would not keep her contract open for the next season. Dickson claims this is a violation of the company’s agreement with the American Guild of Musical Artists. Dickson filed suit against company president Richard E. LeBlond Jr., Tomasson and the San Francisco Ballet, seeking unspecified damages of more than $25,000. Sandy Stumbaugh, a spokeswoman for SFB, said the company was “saddened and puzzled” by Dickson’s suit. “Her name remains on our roster with an asterisk, noting her leave of absence,” Stumbaugh noted, adding that attempts to confirm the dancer’s status, dating back to last year, went unanswered by Dickson. “She was never fired,” Stumbaugh said.
