POKER PLAYER SUES NBC . . . FOLDS

A federal jury has ruled against a high-stakes poker player who sued NBC contending her ability to play was affected after the whirring of video cameras caused her horse to rear and throw her.

The jury found on Wednesday that NBC was not negligent in the fall Betty Carey suffered in November, 1982, and also ruled she should not receive any damages, Deputy Clerk of Court Wilma Fox said.

Carey, of Cody, had sought unspecified damages stemming from the injuries she suffered while NBC was filming a segment on her life.

The lawsuit contended that the horse was frightened by the whirring of video cameras, which an NBC crew turned on just as the horse passed by.

Carey said the accident affected her ability to play high-stakes poker because the game demands long stretches at the table. However, during the trial, Carey acknowledged that she had won $1,900 in a 12-hour poker game in Houston on June 11.
