But the above-mentioned award (Ingratitude of the Week) might just go to Sting, who was busily recording a new album on the Caribbean island of Montserrat on Thursday while his mother, Audrey Sumner, was being buried in northeast England. Sting’s publicist, Keith Altham, said that the 36-year-old singer and actor (whose given name is Gordon Sumner) was “naturally very upset” over the death of his mother, but he would not say why Sting was missing the funeral. Mrs. Sumner, 56, died of cancer at her home in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne earlier this week.
