ONLY A LADD: Longtime L.A. deejay Jim Ladd is hitting the road. But don’t worry--he’s not leaving town permanently. The album-rock radio vet will be touring with Roger Waters, who plans to create a traveling radio station for his “Radio KAOS” world tour (which opens Aug. 14 in Providence, R.I., with a stop planned for the Forum in September). Ladd said he’ll be manning a radio booth on stage, where he’ll open the concert with a radio show, perform his spoken-word segments from the “Radio KAOS” album and emcee a live phone-in segment where he’ll take calls from selected members of the audience.

“The concert’s going to be like a real live radio show, with the band showing up to play over radio station KAOS,” explained Ladd, who just returned from London, where the ex-Pink Floyd leader has already begun rehearsals. “Waters is going to perform the current album tracks as well as some old Pink Floyd hits and some new songs, all of which will fit into the theme of the show. It’s going to be a full-blown extravaganza. If you’re expecting Pink Floyd theatrics, you aren’t going to be disappointed--you’re gonna be stunned.”

Ladd added that he plans to work in a local angle for each stop on the tour, saying “We’ll try to mention something about each city, whether it’s a fund-raiser for the homeless or satire about a deviant city official.”

In addition to Ladd, Waters’ touring ensemble is slated to include keyboardist Paul Carrack, guitarists Andy Fairweather Low and Jay Stapley, sax player Mel Collins and drummer Graham Broad.
