4 Soviet Drug Experts Give Award to Betty Ford

BEAVER CREEK, Colo. — Four Soviet experts on alcohol and drug addiction wound up a three-week U.S. tour Saturday by meeting with former President Ford and his wife, Betty, at the Fords’ Colorado mountain home.
The Soviets presented Betty Ford, who admitted substance abuse nearly a decade ago, with the Pioneer of the Year Award of the Soviet-U.S. Conference on Alcoholism and Drug Addiction for her contribution to the recovery movement.
