A Chicago art gallery president has been accused of passing off porcelain pieces as 18th-Century works of art from the famed Meissen studio in Germany. Donald Paset, 52, president of Donrose Galleries Inc., was charged last week with theft by deception for allegedly ordering an employee to put crossed swords known as “Meissen marks” on a set of urns and a set of figurines. The pieces were sold for $14,000 in 1984, said Terry Levin, spokesman for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.
