One man was killed and six people were injured, including a 2-week-old baby who was reported in critical condition, during a high-speed, two-car collision Saturday night, police said.

Santa Ana Police Lt. Jack Nelson said Antonio Mejia Perez, 22, was speeding north in a pickup truck on English Street when he ran a stop sign and broadsided a car driven by Julian Eduardo Ortiz, 22.

Nelson said Mejia Perez was pronounced dead at the scene. Ortiz, whose family was riding in his car, suffered serious internal injuries and was taken to UCI Medical Center where he was listed in serious condition Sunday.

Ortiz’s wife, Diane, 21, was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition Sunday.

The couple’s 2-week-old infant, Arian, was in critical condition at Western Medical Center, a spokeswoman at the Santa Ana hospital said. The baby’s 1 1/2-year-old sister, Karina, was listed in stable condition at the same hospital.

Also injured in the crash, according to Lt. Nelson, was Rogelio Cisneros, 29, who was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center for treatment of chest injuries. Adan Lino, 21, was treated at the scene and did not require hospitalization. It was not clear Sunday night in which vehicle Cisneros and Lino were riding.

Nelson said all the victims were Santa Ana residents. He added that toxicological tests would be performed on Mejia Perez to determine if he had been intoxicated at the time of the crash.
