Local News in Brief : Motorcyclist Plunges Down Hillside, Dies
A Simi Valley man was killed Saturday when his motorcycle plunged off a winding mountain road and down a 100-foot embankment, authorities said Sunday.
The victim, Michael Samuel Alvarez, 20, died at the scene of the accident on Box Canyon Road south of Santa Susana Pass Road near Simi Valley, a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Alvarez was traveling south at high speed at about 8 p.m. when his vehicle went off the road on a curve, landing on a rock pile at the bottom of a steep mountain slope, the CHP spokeswoman said.
