Micom Systems Nearly Doubles 1st-Quarter Profit on 6% Gain

Micom Systems said its fiscal first-quarter profit nearly doubled from a year earlier on a 6% sales gain.

The Simi Valley-based producer of data-communications equipment attributed the improvement largely to a cost-cutting and consolidation program started last year.

In the quarter ended June 30, Micom said, net income jumped to $2.9 million, or 16 cents a share, from $1.5 million, or 9 cents a share, a year earlier. Sales climbed from $46.2 million to $49 million.

Micom said its year-ago results were restated to reflect the recent acquisition of International Software Database.
