Inglewood : Schools Must Cut Budget
Inglewood Unified School District board members will have to cut $1.9 million from the 1987-88 budget at a special meeting Tuesday. And officials say Gov. George Deukmejian’s veto of Urban Impact Funds will deprive the district of $700,000 that could have softened the impact of widespread cutbacks, perhaps requiring further reductions.
At this week’s board meeting, new member Lois Hill Hale was elected president, with former president Ernest Shaw taking over as vice president. Hill Hale is chief deputy for State Sen. Diane Watson (D-Los Angeles). New member Zyra McCloud also was sworn in.
Board members delayed consideration of the budget to go over it again. Among cuts recommended by district staff: closing a community school for first-grade and kindergarten; reducing counseling, security and custodial staff; cutting 12-month staff positions by a month and reducing supplies for students systemwide.
