College Rezoning Proposal Dropped

Share

At the request of East Los Angeles College, the Montery Park City Council has dropped a proposal to rezone 10 acres of the campus for a shopping center.

The council had proposed the rezoning, subject to approval by voters, to give the college the option of participating in a redevelopment project. But the plan aroused opposition and the college asked the city to drop it.

In abandoning the college rezoning plan, the council this week reorganized the zoning proposals that will be submitted to voters Oct. 20. Three measures would create new zoning regulations for the central business area, the mid-Atlantic and South Garfield districts, and scattered commercial areas. A fourth measure would prohibit the city from issuing any height limit variance that is more than six feet above the limit permitted in the zoning code.
