With the Summer Olympics in Seoul just a year away, viewers can get an advance look at athletes who may be taking part in the 1988 event by tuning in this weekend’s coverage of the U.S. Olympic Festival on cable TV’s ESPN.

Today’s broadcasts will be carried at 9 a.m. (figure skating, diving, women’s basketball) and 4:30 p.m. (boxing, figure skating, diving, wrestling). Sunday’s telecasts, due at the same times, will feature figure skating, diving and boxing.

Golf, one of the few sports not included on the U.S. Olympic schedule, comes to the fore via ABC, which will televise the British Open from Muirfield, Scotland, today at 9 a.m. and Sunday at 7:30 a.m. (7)(3)(10)(42).

For local baseball fans, there’s a pair of California Angels games on the tube as the team takes on the Milwaukee Brewers today at 5:30 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. on KTLA Channel 5.

In the boxing ring, it’s Mike McCallum vs. Donald Curry in a WBA junior middleweight championship tonight at 7 on HBO. On Sunday Terrence Alli challenges Jose Luis Ramirez for the WBC lightweight title at 1 p.m. (2)(8).

Meanwhile, “Wide World of Sports” will spotlight several top competitors from gymnastics and figure skating today at 3:30 p.m. (10) and 4:30 p.m. (7)(3)(42). Among those on display are Mary Lou Retton, Olga Korbut and Brian Boitano.
