Poindexter, North and the Congressional Committee

Share

As I heard testimony of former Security National Adviser John Poindexter, it occurred to me that a man appointed by the President had it in his power to bring the President as near to impeachment as possible by simply stating that he had told his boss about the diversion of funds to the contras.

Further, it occurred to me that that’s what’s wrong with activities not sanctioned by the President, activities so covert that those running them can have it in their power to topple a President elected by millions upon millions of American citizens.

I should not want to be “protected” by such people, call them patriots or zealots. The President should be angry that he was not told. Instead we see him smiling and saying “What’s new about that? I’ve been saying it for seven months.”
