The Archbishop of Canterbury today lamented the “six months of silence” since Terry Waite, his envoy, disappeared while trying to negotiate freedom for Western hostages in Lebanon.

The Most. Rev. Robert A. K. Runcie, the spiritual head of the Church of England, issued a statement to mark the anniversary of the date Waite vanished in Beirut. No group has claimed responsibility for taking Waite or acknowledged holding him.
