Western Digital Corp., an Irvine-based manufacturer of computer components, said it completed the acquisition of Faraday Electronics Inc. of Sunnyvale for $42 million of stock.

The company acquired all of Faraday’s stock in exchange for 1.55 million shares of newly issued Western Digital stock, which closed on the American Stock Exchange Monday at $27.25, down 87.5 cents.

The acquisition adds a new line of computer components to Western Digital’s product roster. Faraday makes components for the circuit board containing the microprocessor, or “brain,” of a personal computer.
