Hundreds of demonstrators in Karachi, Pakistan, clashed with police and set fire to shops and buses, injuring 18 people after a night of violence that left three people dead, witnesses and officials said. Police also defused two large bombs found in the sewer system, police sources said. Ethnic Mohajir residents, who settled in Karachi after the partition of the subcontinent 40 years ago, began fighting police after a day of tension over a traffic accident in which a Punjabi bus driver struck and killed a Mohajir child. The riots erupted a week after two car bombs and two other explosions killed more than 70 people and wounded about 300.
