Countywide : Panel Named to Plan U.S. Constitution Events

A Bicentennial Committee has been formed by the Board of Supervisors to help the county celebrate the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Constitution.

Committee members will organize local activities for the next five years, commemorating the time from the first draft of the Constitution to ratification of the Bill of Rights.

Jane Gerber, longtime member of the Orange County Historical Commission from Westminster and mother of former state Controller Ken Cory, will be committee chairwoman.

Also appointed to the committee were UC Irvine Chancellor Jack Peltason of Irvine; Fullerton City Councilman Buck Catlin; businessman John M. Rau of Orange; Helen Curtis and Robert Kuznik of Anaheim; Colleen McGregor of Buena Park; James Silva, Kaye MacLeod and Norma Gibbs of Huntington Beach; Dorothy Hughes of Laguna Hills; Evelyn Carillo of Mission Viejo, and Lecil Slaback, a longtime resident of Silverado Canyon and member of the county historical commission.

Others on the committee are Dist. Atty. Cecil Hicks, public defender Ronald Butler, Orange County Counsel Adrian Kuyper and Superior Court Judge Harmon G. Scoville.
