EPA Urges Gas Vaporization Cut

WASHINGTON —
EPA chief Lee Thomas today proposed requiring gasoline refiners to reduce the volatility of motor fuel sold during the summer months--from May 16 to Sept. 15--to help reduce air pollution.
He said the proposed requirement, along with new controls on all motor vehicles to prevent the escape of gasoline fumes during refueling--already required in California--could reduce the release of smog-causing ozone by as much as 10% nationwide.
