“The Color Purple” is the red-hot new rental, debuting at No. 4 on the Billboard magazine rental chart. It didn’t have a chance to bounce “The Color of Money” out of the No. 1 position. “The Little Shop of Horrors” already did that this week. But ‘Little Shop” probably won’t be the No. 1 rental very long. Look for “The Color Purple” to take over in the next week or two. But don’t take “The Golden Child” lightly. It debuted on the rental chart at No. 11 and could challenge “The Color Purple” for the No. 1 position. “Crimes of the Heart” may have peaked early. After entering the rental chart at No. 8 last week, it dropped to No. 14. “Top Gun” still heads the videocassette sales chart, as it has done for months now.
