The State : Pardon North, Poindexter, Wilson Urges

Sen. Pete Wilson (R-Calif.) said that Lt. Col. Oliver North and Rear Adm. John Poindexter should be considered for presidential pardons for any criminal acts committed while at the White House. Wilson waded into the controversy over the future of the two former national security aides in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle. Wilson, who is up for reelection next year, says if the Iran- contra independent counsel seeks indictments of the two men, “in both instances, whatever they did that was wrong was inspired by genuine patriotism and the best of motives.”
