The Environmental Protection Agency warned pregnant women to avoid exposure to the pesticide cyhexatin, saying it may pose a risk of birth defects to their unborn children. Pregnant women should avoid working in fields where the pesticide has been applied, and women of childbearing age also should avoid exposure to the pesticide, the agency said. Dow Chemical Co and Chevron Chemical Co., the registered marketers of the product, told the EPA they were withdrawing all cyhexatin products from the market for the rest of this growing season, except for those used on apples and citrus.
