Whitney Houston’s “Whitney” dominated the Billboard magazine pop album chart once again this week, making it six in a row for the Arista LP. Meanwhile, bubbling below the Top Five, Starship’s “No Protection” jumped from No. 79 to No. 16 on the chart and appears a shoo-in for the top. The album’s big attraction is the group’s recent No. 1 single, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now.” Other hot albums: the Fat Boy’s “Crushin’ ” (No. 17), Sammy Hagar’s “Sammy Hagar” (No. 18) and the Outfield’s “Bangin’ ” (No. 25). The new No. 1 single is Bob Seger’s “Shakedown.” Madonna’s hot single “Who’s That Girl” (No. 11) will be in Top 10 next week.

“In the Dark,” the first album in years by the veteran Bay Area band, shot up to No. 12 in just two weeks because it was snapped up by all those Deadheads who’ve been eagerly awaiting it. But the question is: How well will it do in the mainstream?
